I am incredibly lucky to have a wonderful, talented, funny, beautiful sister. She knows I’m not perfect, loves me anyway, and encourages me to get outside my comfort zone (and without whose enthusiasm I would never have started this blog!). If you know the type, check out this beautiful necklace from Red Envelope, which says “my sister my friend” in morse code ($$$). Because once you stop pulling each other’s hair and stealing each other’s clothes, you just might find that you have a friend for life.

This weekend my husband and I were in Provincetown, MA enjoying some gorgeous fall weather, great food and good company. We rented a gorgeous condo (thanks Eddie!) and are totally in love with this rustic wood American flag hanging on the living room wall:
So, after a little Google-searching I found Rustic Marlin! They make these gorgeous American Flag Signs with customized images in a variety of sizes ($$-$$$$$)
They also make customized signs like these Marlin Classics ($$$):
These would make great wedding gifts, housewarming gifts, gifts for a nursery, holiday gifts…shall I go on? Check out some additional inspiration here.

Looking for a little something for that lovable student in your life? How about some cool bookends for the new dorm room or apartment? I love these from MissionWorks2012. Check them out on Etsy here: Steampunk Pipe and Gauge Bookends
Or, for something a little more whimsical (who doesn’t love giraffes?!) check out Knob Creek Metal Arts:

Your friend or loved one may not be climbing the corporate ladder anymore but everyone needs business or personal cards. Whether starting a new venture or retiring from a long career, help him or her make an impression when heading off in a new direction. My go-to shop for business and personal cards is MOO. Check them out at http://www.moo.com/share/d7dyfj for a 10% discount. I especially love their Mini-Cards (half the size of a regular business card) and they have gift cards available.

If you know someone who would rather spend money on beauty products than groceries, this is the gift idea for you. Birchbox will send your friend a box of high-end beauty and lifestyle samples each month to try:
You can choose a 3-month package, a 6-month package or go all out and give the gift of a year of goodies at www.birchbox.com/shop/gift
And, if your product-junkie happens to be male, don’t worry, Birchbox has packages for him too.

New in town? Help them get to know their new neighborhood by writing down a few of your favorite restaurants and things to do in a journal that they can add to as they explore. You can also include contact information for your handyman, plumber, electrician, babysitters and anyone else you think might be helpful. You can get them started by taking them to dinner at one of your favorite spots and suggesting that you try somewhere new the next time. It’s always fun to have an excuse to explore your own neighborhood.
